Yes, it is horrible, and we should not do that. I just commented on patch 5/7, but the applies to the whole series: We should reconsider the aforementioned commits (read: revert and/or replace with a more sensible implementation). We should really make sure to 1) keep the code readable and 2) especially keep the code compatible with Linux coding.
