Booting U-Boot from NAND Flash on i.MX31 PDK requires nothing else. However, the current U-Boot does not have support to have the U-Boot environment or kernel in NAND since the mx31_nand.c driver is missing. There have been a number of patches containing such a driver but so far no one has been accepted.
