With DM_MMC you also need to enable CONFIG_BLK Moreover, I don't know how experienced are you with the DM/DTS (the dm tree command from u-boot prompt), but I would recommend starting with converting subsystem, which is not used to boot the device (for example PMIC, I2C, REGULATOR, etc).
