Yes, I noticed that. Another argument is that U-Boot / Linux shouldn't have anything to do with building device tree files, and therefore the tools are Someone Else's Problem - the flashing / packaging tools should do it. I don't really have an opinion on this yet. Given the speed that dtc moves at, perhaps this is a problem we can live with for now.
