We had similar problems with our testing.  Our solution was to have all the
user names as Upper Case.  This was a suggestion made by another contributor
to this list and we think this solved our problem, although we tried a
number of other things about the same time.
 
We found we couldn't just rename to upper case.  I had to delete and
recreate the user login on the PDC to get this to work.  Now works
correctly.
 
There appears to be some type of translation between the user login and
converting this to run as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
