Hi,

We are now one step closer to enter production with our new linux server
running rh8.0 on a siemens rx300 with 2 gig ram, today we opened up for a
limited number of users, so they can abuse the system the way only a user
can :-)

Meanwhile im working on converting adhoc c programs to work under the new
environment, and polish off my backup routines, and then i need some info.
on the config file for universe:

SELBUF 4 : is it safe to increase this, as we often have some large
selects
: ideally i would change it to 100
FSEMNUM 23 : is there a way to calculate optimal values for these 3
GSEMNUM 97 : tunables, i wasn't able to find any description on what they
PSEMNUM 64 : do, and what a change will do. On our existing production
machine
: these are the exact same numbers

FLTABSZ 11 : same here, what do they actually do and what effects will it
have
GLTABSZ 50 : to change them. On our production machinf GLTABSZ & RLTABSZ is RLTABSZ 50
: set to 75
RLOWNER 50 : this is 300 on our production machine

Because of the warnings regarding the last 7 tunables i will not tamper with

them before i know a bit more about them.

I really hope someone on the list can elaborate a bit on what they mean?

thanks in advance

best regards from denmark
