I think the issue was not so much informing the list that Craig had
passed away, but rather including details such as names and telephone
numbers of relatives to the list in general, many of whom (myself
included) never knew Craig.  

Perhaps a more appropriate approach would have been to include an email
address and an invitation to contact him off-list for further
information.

I disagree. Craig worked at a variety of places around the country and
this would be the most effective way for people who worked with him to
know he had passed away.

Don't get me wrong - I do feel for the lady, but don't you think sending
somebody's personal details right around the globe is pushing it?

If I were her, I'd be pretty sad right now! Having a
potential 30000
condolence calls, let alone knowing we all have her sister's phone
number...
