Thanks Michael, we're not using transaction logging, just begin, commit, rollback & end - there are several file updates within the boundary - it's at isolation level 2. UV 10.0.9 aix / ibm p850.
Looking at the ANALYZE.FILE stats, the file probably is bady configured - It's at GROUP.SIZE 1 (2kb) where the average record size is about 3kb I will try resizing the GROUP.SIZE tonight to 2 and see if that makes a difference. However, without knowing why it occured or being able to force the error to occur again it makes me uneasy to think it may happen again.
