Also, if you leave the SYSTEM(40) code in and rename the program, they name will reflect the update. Otherwise, you could copy an existing program (or program skeleton) and end up reporting back the wrong hard coded name because you didn't remember to manually update the variable.

But wouldn't one know the name of subroutine that the code is getting
executed? Have define a variable with a value that is the name of the
subroutine and read this variable whenever one needs to use the
subroutine name anywhere within the code.
