Actually, I think there are a few things in the positive column for UV, as there are a few for UD, but the ability to manually interfere with the contents of indexes isn't one I'd put on that side of the ledger.
If you want to be sure that indexes are updated every time something is written, even if the record doesn't normally appear to have changed, then add a trigger on the file which updates a timestamp field that you otherwise ignore. That way UniData will always think that the record has changed and will always evaluate any indexed fields and update the indices.
