That is the crux of the problem, there is an inherent mismatch between
numeric data stored in external format without a dictionary conversion and
numeric values entered at the command line. I think because there is no
Dictionary conversion uv is doing a string comparison not a numeric one. The
ABS is a red herring, selecting on Balance would have the same effect

Try creating an I-Descriptor as follows and then selecting on it

REALBAL:
1: I
2: ABS(BALANCE*1000000)
3: MD6
4: Real balance
5: 12R
6: S

If you then select with Realbal gt 0.01 I think you'll find it works

Shouldn't really have a decimal point in it. You should always store
data in internal rather than external format.
