Hi Craig,

Firstly, just because few people in the industry have ever heard of UniVerse
doesn't mean that it isn't widely used. The problem is that most of the
users don't go out to buy UniVerse; they buy an application that runs on
UniVerse but because the product doesn't need a team of specialists to keep
it going, they often don't even know it's there. The user list is kept
fairly secret by IBM but you can see some big names go past on this user
group from time to time.

Secondly, one of the motivations behind the OpenQM project which launched an
open source multivalue database a couple of months back is to bring
multivalue technology to the student population thus building an awareness
of the data mode in people who might otherwise never have heard of it. We
already have educational users looking to teach it as part of their course
material and there are several other very exciting developments that should
help to bring multivalue into places it has never been before. This is not
the right forum to discuss OpenQM further but, if you want to know more,
visit www.openqm.com.
