My most favorite recollection about rates is once when I was negotiating a
rate with a client. We were in the $60-$75 per hour range and the phone
rang. This is the conversation as I heard it...

"Okay, you'll be there from 4:00pm to 5:00 pm..mmm...good. Don't forget to
wear that big nose and those funny shoes...mmm... good... Yes, the kids like
those balloon animals as well..mmm..good...So it's set, you can do the job
for $150. Great. See you then."

This guy didn't have any problem paying $150 per hour for a clown yet was
haggling with me for professional computer services. Maybe I shoulda kept up
with my juggling.

My 1/2 cent (adjusted for inflation)
