There is another comparison error I ran into with
Universe. When working with data that contained
German accents, I came upon some that used character
255 as one of their accented characters. Universe
treated different strings containing these characters
as if they were the same. This was in version 7.xx on
HP-UX. This was back in the mid-90's so I don't
remember what the strings were exactly. They were
street names.
I got around the problem back then by substituting the
^255 character with the equivalent character in the
table my clients were using using the tr command on
Unix before processing the data file.
Could your ANS variable have contained Char(255) ?
