Chuck, Not knowing the complete details of your test, I can only give some general tips.
First, Make sure that the minimum modulo of the dynamic file you are copping into is sized correctly. ( I.E. Starting a dynamic file with a minimum modulo of 1 will grow but will take a lot longer then a static file properly sized. ) Also verify/set the split load merge load to realistic numbers. If you split too soon, not only will you have a performance hit, you will also waste disk space. Lastly, with some creative tweeking of where you put the multiple files that make up the dynamic file, you can actually improve performance by utilizing/balancing the traffic on the disk controllers and disks.
