You can also use RedBack: PHP can instantiate COM objects on Windows
platforms, and has a java interface so it can create java redback objects
(RedObjects). I guess these would also allow UO and UOJ, but then you're
back to the old web access/connection pooling issues.

There is a paper available (to the public for a change!) on the IBM site
under the U2 documentation/white papers section on using RedBack with PHP.
If I remember correctly, it was written by JayJay so it should be good
stuff. 

I've also had some success connecting PHP through my simple web services
interface using the NuSOAP library.

This sounds like a good subject for a discussion paper in the knowledge
base...
