Have seen something similar with Specialix - problems (some posted by others) that can cause this:
1. Bad Digi - isolate by removing one-by-one 2. Unterminated RS422 port 3. RF pickup (seen a lead laid next to an RF source - Fluorescent tube, etc) or nearby FM transmitter (taxi / microwave-based alarm). 4. Bad IRQ share (hardware change usually needed for this to be an issue) 5. Incompatible firmware 6 Wrong slot in bus (YES - honest - some bus slots are not a good idea. Usually the motherboard manufacturer will tell you about sensitivities and IRQ sharing between some slots. Try moving them around. If nothing obvious and fault is readily reproduceable then strip to one digi - check if OK - if not then swap the digi - if OK then it was the digi, if not then try a different mobo slot - swap digi in this slot etc. Get a "base" system working with one digi in one slot and take it from there (a pain I know - but desperate measures. BTW: On the specialix one: we eventually went to a different multiport board - they just couldn't cope with the system speed.
