I prefer alphanumeric labels for subroutines. The label should give some clue as to the function of the subroutine. The subroutines should be in frequency of use order with the most commonly used closer to the top of the program. Subroutines that are used once in a program (file opens, variable initialization, etc...) are located near the bottom.
