Folks,

Thanks everyone for the help. I found a local site using UV under win 2000
and they made me aware of this issue i.e. you can only print to printers
locally defined on the Universe server.

Unless something has changed in release 10 that I do not know about,
UniVerse NT will not allow a network path for printers.  Any printer that
UniVerse needs to address must be set up locally on the server that UniVerse
sits on.  
Then SETPTR
will find the printer provided there are no spaces in the name.  You can
have a printer named NORCON but not \\NORCON-DEV\NORCON.  Only printers you
can see when you type in SPOOL -LIST can be used in SETPTR.
