George, We converted to a sun VE880 over the summer. We went from two 11 year old DG/UX 9500's to one server. We also went from unidata 5.1.4 to 6.1.4. The sun server we migrated to was not the latest version. It has 4 sunsparc 900 MHZ processors and the latest equivalent is shipped with 4 1.2 GHZ processors. We are licensed for 1300 users and most days we have about 800 concurrent users. The system is fast. There were minor issues with system calls as some unix commands have a different syntax. Printer configuration can be a problem. We had several issues setting up the printers. We are using java on the client side, but do not use it to get data from this server.

Anyone care to comment on their experience running unidata on Sun boxes
(AMD or Sparc).

If so are you using java or .Net on the client side.

Thanks
