OK, this does not do exactly what I had in mind, but it DOES work and is totally interesting. When I executed that command, behind the scenes it made a subdirectory under SCRATCH named SCRATCH, and moved all of the existing files into the new subdirectory, so I had .\SCRATCH\SCRATCH, and then it put MYHASHFILE under SCRATCH. This was all transparent to universe, but the DOS app that also accesses that directory suddenly thought that all of it's files were gone!
