How can I detect whether or not a file is a remote pointer to another box
(preferably from within a basic program)? Unfortunately, from any given
account, it can be a Q pointer to another account, where it's defined as
remote in that VOC, so I can't just look for an exclamation point in field
2.
I don't see anything in the status statement. The status function will
return a "-2" if the open fails, but I want to bypass remote files before
even trying the open. Anybody know this one? tia

Actually, it was the other way around; I wrote the first uniVerse
internals course manual originally in 1991 for uv 6.3.4 when I first
started with VMark (having worked with uniVerse for about 6 years at
Encore and Prime). Jim Todhunter used to teach the class (sporadically
and without much printed material). I attended the class just about 3
weeks or so before starting with VMark and took copius notes which, once
onboard at VMark, I then translated into the manual in about 6 months. I
also taught the course 4 times a year for approximately 2 yrs, until VMark
actually hired someone to perform that duty.
The Australian version came circa 1996 based upon that work (or more
likely the 2nd or 3rd version of it). I still have the original
email/zips from my review of the material.
Them were fun day! ;-)
