If I've understood you correctly then you've effectively performed three
separate steps :

1. You've deleted your account(s) and restored from (straight copy) backups
2. You've deleted and reinstalled the Universe home/program account
3. You've upgraded Universe

So far as potential problems with each are concerned :-

1. If the straight copy was taken while the system was quiet (no users
updating the system) and provided the account contents weren't changed after
the backup then all should be fine.
2. You have potentially lost any changes made to your uv 10.1.3 account from
the time you originally installed it. If you or your applications were using
Global cataloging (if you don't know then you probably weren't) then you
will need to recatalog everything. You will have lost the contents of the
UV.Account file, but sounds like you've already restored those. I can't
think of anything else that might have changed without you doing it
deliberately, and hence knowing what you've changed
3. The message you got and the action you took represent the standard Uv
account upgrade process so I can't see any issues there

As to why the backups weren't compatible, I can't say ( I always use the
"straight copy" method of backup) but I'm sure somebody who does know will
chip in shortly

Subject: [U2] v10.0 Backups not compatible with v10.1

I just rebuilt my Win2k box and installed UniVerse 10.1.11 without
difficulty.
However, when I went into UVAdmin to Restore backups that I had made under
v10.1.3, it said:
This tape or file does not contain a valid UVbackup image". I spent a few
hours looking around for any articles about this without luck.
