Can't you just use the LIST command to do this in Unidata already? If you
make sure UDT.OPTIONS 91 is one so that the output to an ASCII file is in
OCONV format instead of ICONV, i.e., the conversion codes are forced to
execute before saving to an ASCII file. For example:

UDT.OPTIONS 91 ON
LIST PERSON LAST.NAME FIRST.NAME BIRTH.DATE HDR.SUP COL.SUP COUNT.SUP
NO.PAGE TO DELIM " " _HOLD_/BIO.TXT SAMPLE 1000

Just put a tab between the " " in the command - literally - press the tab
key. The BIO.TXT in the _HOLD_ file has you tab delimited file. You can
delimit with any character between the two quotes. I always use the HDR.SUP
COL.SUP COUNT.SUP NO.PAGE to get a clean output. You can probably make a VOC
PH to abbreviate that.

Anyway, hope that helps!

Dave

Yes, I haven't converted it to UniData - but I can if people are interested
(I have a precompiler that handles most of the syntax changes). I'll put it
on my to-do list anyway, but it will probably take a week before I get round
to it.

Regards,

Brian
