Jason I notice no-one has replied to this. I'm not surprised...
Please don't take this the wrong way, but the best advice would be - if you claim to know zero about UniVerse, unless it is a really tiny system with no users don't do this yourself. Replatforming an existing system is not a job I would give to someone who doesn't know this technology intimately, especially when it involves a change in architecture. There are significant differences between UniVerse on Windows and UniVerse on UNIX in terms of device handling, spooler and, of course, path and login access. UniVerse is a complete application environment, not just a simple database like Oracle or SQL Server: you can't lift up the data from one system, put it on another and expect the applications to work. As a minimum you need to transfer the accounts using a tool like uvbackup/uvrestore; remove, recreate and rebuild all the indices; recompile the dictionaries; check whether any file pointers use paths to access remote files; recompile and recatalog all the programs; ensure that the account pointers are set up in the UV account; create users with correct permissions and login settings; set up all the printers, terminal type definitions, peripherals and file system security; resolve any issues from upgrading the accounts to a newer version of UniVerse; ensure that any external interfaces (e.g. ODBC, OleDB) are configured and ensure there are holes in the firewall for telnet, rexec and UniObjects middlewares. And configure UniVerse tunables like the rotating file pool, and UVTEMP. It is also a useful opportunity to do some file tuning. It is not trivial. Seriously, get some expert help. There are plenty of people who can do this quickly and affordably and it will save you some serious heartache.
