Bob - The key is, as Tony notes, to make sure that whatever he buys does
indeed support expanded memory.  A check with the manufacturer with either
get him a straight answer either way or a "What's Expanded Memory?" from
first line tech support (probably before their time). 

As for settings, below is a link to the Arev FAQ which shows a Windows 95
PIF (shortcut) that's basically the same as in XP.

I know this is a universe/unidata list but I know many of you still use
Arev. I wondering if anyone that is using AREV has purchased a laptop
recently that they are using it on. I know I  need expanded memory (old
dos stuff) and I know before getting the cheapo systems did not allow
you to access it because windows wants to. So any help would be great.
