Brian had the right idea, create a proc that generates the SETPTR command with the OPEN option that opens the file immediately then call a program from the proc that PROCREADs the buffer and then writes the output to a file or named common where the caller can find it. We used to do this kind of thing years ago, not sure if it still works in the current UV but that was the general jist of it as I recall.
