Jeff The usual reason is creating and building an index while the file is open (assuming there's no bad data as other posters have alluded to).
Create a NEW file and populate it. (the file only being known to YOU). Create and build the indexes. Try it now... Useful command "fuser -u unix_filename"....... shows you who PHYSICALLY has the partfiles open. If MFILES is too low however it may not tell you everything if the file has been rotated out of the file pool. Another one is incorrectly described MV/SV properties.
