Karl: It's amazing how back in the old days the first thing we'd have looked for is bad hardware. Now, the first think we look for is bad software. :-(

(creap?)... I took it in and after removing just about everything, the service guy found the spring-lock that holds the top gears against the bottom gears had come off. I guess that paper jam last month was worse than I thought. In any case, they put it back on and the printer is back to 'normal' and giving service as expected. I wish I had been onsite when the jam occurred. The person who cleared the jam mentioned that the paper was in pretty tight... Thanks for the suggestions. I think the principle mentioned that if it's less than one line, it's mechanical and if it's a line-sized creep, it's software. Very good rule of thumb. Thanks Jeff, for sending that along.
