Teri, I'd bet, as cumbersome as it may be, if you pin down the times at which this error is occurring and can see what other processes are running on the system at that time you'd probably get a good answer to your question. However, to prevent this, would it be possible to check and trap the file open for an error message, log it, but allow the phantom to continue on and try again until it's successful? That's probably your best bet to prevent a required manual restart of the phantom process.
