Hacking the file pointers (either Q or F type) is normal practice, BUT you do
need to be careful about three things.

1. Before you take a copy of the file in Explorer, check whether it has any
indexes.

If a file has secondary indexing, UniVerse holds the absolute path to the index
in the file header. You must use SET.INDEX to either change or remove that path
on the history file, otherwise your history file will update your live index ..
not a smart move.

2. If it is a dynamic file, it is probably not safe to move in that way unless
you know it hasn't been referenced - in fact, don't consider moving it unless
you stop UniVerse first. Dynamic files hold state information in shared memory.
The risk is yours.

3. I know it's obvious, but make sure nobody is accessing the file when you
take the copy..

STEAL-FILE
I am using Windows/UniVerse and would like to separate a bloated account into
2 accounts on the Live and the other history. If I Drag and Drop and the
files using explorer I then have to revise the VOC pointers to Q and the
account Name. D3 has a command called Steal-file and does all the right
stuff. I am concerned if I just hack the VOC Pointers It's only part way
done?
Any suggestions?
