It is only about 20 or 30 lines of code is ASP.NET to write a web service front 
end to a universe basic program using uniobjects.net. You could do this and 
call it using the standard http or soap client library in databasic.  No need 
for the u2 web services tool.

Also, web services are not a free option.
You need a pooled connection licence, which is another expense.

Nothing like putting barriers in the way of technology, eh?

Unfortunately we are stuck with Universe 10.1.2 on HP-UX.
I don't think our management will bother with "unnecessary" upgrades
unless our vendor support for Universe requires us to run newer versions.
