Ray (and everyone who responded similarly) Yes, I've wrapped the CREATE.FILE verb and I have it doing different things under different circumstance, just as I described. I simply think it should be handled that way by U2, not just by my wrapper.
I have to explain it a lot to people who don't use my wrapped CREATE.FILE. I think it is a good idea for an enhancement -- just as you say, to at least explain more clearly why it can't create. Give the user the information at hand. Save the end-user time and frustration, save those of us who do understand what happened the support call. One thing I've decided at this late stage of my developer-life is that I'm really tired of mysteries - especially unnecessary mysteries. Hence I've been asking for a number of things from SB+ and U2 that would remove some of the time we all spend in un-necessary and frustrating sleuthing. A mature product can afford to be ... more mature. Don't you think!? But there's scope for it generating a warning message outlining precisely why it failed - it's part of the way there already. It would be easy to create a wrapper (fourth-line subroutine in UniVerse?) to handle the postulated changes. ------------------------------ End of U2 Users Digest V1 #1660 ******************************* ------------ u2-users-digest mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/ ------- u2-users mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
