I don't believe it's a supported platform from IBM (at least it wasn't a couple years back when I asked).
I did have one client that ran it for a couple of years like that and really loved it. Recently I had one client getting some very strange things happening. Things like a record would exist in one session but not another one. Validating it was the same record by locking it indicated it was. I recommended they remove it from vmware - or try a different version.
