No data retrieved from current (S)SELECT statement.

The SELECT isn't doing what you think ...
What you need is
SELECT B10.COMMONAPP WITH AVAILABILITY LIKE "...'8a'..."
Note the single quotes around the '8a'
What you've actually asked for is any AVAILABITY that contains an
8-alpha string. I got bitten by that *many* years ago ... I've always
remembered it ...
