Not sure what "software package" you're referring to here. QualityStage from IBM is ideal - you get total control over the fuzzy logic, the ability to standardize forms (such as AV, AVE, AVENUE) and, of course, the ability to control the probability levels at which the potential duplicates are identified (both likelihood of a true match and likelihood that match occured by random chance). You can then (if you wish), as part of the de-duplication exercise, assemble the "best of breed" data from the group of candidate duplicates rather than just relying on one record's contents.
