The reason is that record locking and group locking (which maintains the integrity of data within a group in a hashed file independent of 'logical' record locks) is maintained in shared memory (or Windows memory mapped files) that are local to each system.
You CAN use NFA to safely read/write UniData files on another system running UniData.
