It can....it could be A @ <x,1> and B @ <x,2> but...

I read from the original post (between the lines) that only status of A OR B
    when the ST_date = "" were to be pulled, and not to mix vm lines, that is
    status and ST_Date of <,x> and only <,x> were to be compared.
