We do not use datastage, but all our web front end (that is the 24x7 part) is asp.net using uo.net - yes we do have problems where on occasion we have to restart unidata because uniobjects seems to get in a twist - never been able to trace out why. As for resizing, we rebuild most of the files on a separate box (from product feeds) and then publish the files live every night - they are quite small really always under 2 gig and less that 2 million rows. We use dynamic files for anything over 2 gig . Not got the 64bit stuff sorted out yet, tho the OS is 64bit redhat. Sometimes we do have to resize on the fly a file that is being used (read only) and we have never had a corruption problem yet and this is pre concurrent option so i think perhaps we are lucky. We only do it if it is really necessary. Wait on disk is pretty bad when we do it - then again we are pretty disk bound on a number of operations. We do resize the dynamic file son occasion as well again, they are not massive maybe upto 6 or 7 gig but wait on disk is high again.

If so do you have any problems with either? Also how does it affect system performance if you try to resize huge file(s)? thanks dougc -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Symeon Breen Sent: Sunday, March 15, 2009 8:34 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [U2] UV resizing My thoughts are I run 24x7x52 and there is no such thing as out of business hours, so the concurrent option is an essential ! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Doug Chanco Sent: 15 March 2009 01:16 To: [email protected] Subject: [U2] UV resizing I am curious as to people's thoughts on resizing during business hours using the concurrent option? 'I'd like to hear any thoughts/ideas/suggestions/tales/stories (good and bad)/etc of resizing universe files (on aix or any other os) during business hours. I come from the school of thought that one resizes ONLY during non business hours (even if your sure users will not be accessing the file your resizing) Thanks everyone Dougc ------- u2-users mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/ ------- u2-users mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/ ------- u2-users mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/ ------- u2-users mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe please visit http://listserver.u2ug.org/
