Well, you don't need to "write" a connection manager. You can use one that already exists at a very reasonable price. As I've mentioned many times in my blog, you can use mv.NET connections to U2 from a variety of clients and middle-tiers, including PHP, Java, Adobe Flex, old ASP (not .NET), devices, and of course .NET.
