Jeff:
We're using mv.NET w/UO.NET as the underlying connection software. We
pause our UniData server every night for about half an hour to do
backups. Our .NET application will occasionally attempt to connect
during this "paused" period and an application error page is displayed
telling the user that the dbms is being serviced and to come back in
half an hour.
Therefore, I think if mv.NET can tell that a connection failed you
should be able to too. I'm not sure you want to know whether the dbms
is actually paused or you just can't connect to it. If the former
you've introduced some complications but if the later I suspect there
shouldn't be a problem.
HTH,
Bill

Is there any way for UniObjects to know if the database is paused?
As far as I can tell an open session will wait and a new session will
throw an exception.
The reason I need to know is that we're now using the SBOM method for
rsync-ing with our standby server. This however is causing problems with
those applications that attempt to connect while the system is paused as
the mirror is broken off.
TIA
