What about "overloading" the CLEARSELECT voc item so that it runs a program that does a UDTEXECUTE "CLEARSELECT".
You wouldn't have to update your programs, plus when you upgraded to a version without this issue, you could easily remove the workaround. Note: I didn't test it to see how well/if it would work.
