I'm wondering if it's because MESSAGE can optionally prompt for input, and because the call statement is executed from the jsp page via executeQuery - maybe it won't allow input inside a query (similar to the rule about input inside a transaction).

Also from a separate phantom process for certain important events we have some code that sends a splat message to line 23 of specific users' sessions (this uses the Universe MESSAGE command) -this also works fine. We're now trying to get the subroutine called via JDBC to also use the MESSAGE command. But each time it throws this error message into the uv errlog: "root VOC entry "MESSAGE" illegal as or in a procedure." Does anyone know what's wrong here?
