A private host gives you root/admin access so that you can install U2 and anything else you want across the file system. In this environment you are getting a virtual slice of a server, shared with some number of other companies. The spooler and all other functions are isolated to each private/virtual environment. Almost all TCP/IP operations can be done in a private/shared host, including running output to a printer across the internet. I add "almost", not because I'm aware of some operation that can't be done, but because there's a high probability that some environments will have limitations. A dedicated server is a piece of hardware allocated to one and only one company. I think people choose this option mostly to avoid being impacted in any way by neighbors in other virtuals. I'd be interested anyone disagrees with those definitions, and to hear of experiences hosting MV environments in private vs dedicated servers.
