Thanks for your thoughts. We're already doing smaller stuff in the cloud and we also have co-located hardware that's being managed. I was just curious to see how/if people were doing bigger, high-performance apps.
Thanks again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Eric Rosenzweig Vice President, Information Systems Application Development and System Administration Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. 9125 Rehco Rd. You can certainly host at most data centres/hosting providers many supply just the os and you can install whatever db you like, some just supply the hardware, you can also go the colo route whre they look after the infrastructure and you supply the box. As for cloud – I don’t think there is any cloud provider that supplies an instance of the size you are looking for – you would have to re architect your solution to be able to host on multiple instances, each instance could be say 16 cores. Cloud is usually about multiple smaller instances. The hardware they use will be large like yours, but they will virtualise on top of that. Does anyone know of a large implementation of Universe in the cloud? We're currently on an IBM P570 with 16cpu and 32gb of RAM. We're looking to upgrade to a 48 processer box with 192gb of ram. Instead of buying a new box we're thinking about running it in the cloud. We've got 2TB of data on an EMC DMX4500. This box does primarily batch processing with about 500 concurrent users. Additionally, I know most cloud providers don't support proprietary Unix like AIX, but prefer Linux. If anyone knows of a similarly sized Linux implementation, cloud or not, I'd like to get some info on that as well. Thanks in advance. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Eric Rosenzweig Vice President, Information Systems Application Development and System Administration Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. 9125 Rehco Rd.
