A simple ETL program can do the single value stuff. I have actually done this with Kettle from Pentaho.
"Would anyone buy it" - That is a great question! The second part of this is creating a need:) This idea in and of itself is not enough. However, MV technology is a proven technology that can (and will) be a force in the market. Whether it be in existing platforms like U2 or integrated into existing fully normalized relational databases....
