You still need to be careful, we use the udt xml processing extensively in a couple of my companies, both on redhat. We have had issues, esp with utf-8 encoding and large files. However since udt just uses the available redhat libxml library, many other tools are also faulty as they also use that library. Hopefully your pearl/python comes with a new rebuild xml library.
