Check the @LEVEL in the error display program and if it's not 1 use a timed input. Unidata has INPUT WAITING, while for Universe, there is a program do do the same at http://www.pickwiki.com/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?InputWait Perhaps do the timed input anyway with different times depending on the level?
