It depends on the type of data and what you want to do with it.

You can create a directory file (type 19) on UniVerse (DIR on UniData) and
simply copy files into there: each file will be visible as a separate record
in the database, with each line of the record being a separate field. That's
the easiest but you should not hold many records in a directory - it is
really only for transferring data this way.

If the data is large or something like a comma separated file, you can copy
it to the machine hosting the database and use OpenSeq/ReadSeq statements to
read it one line at a time and convert it.

If the data is in XML there are various tools for importing it built into
the database. Check out the PrepareXML function in the Basic Language
Extensions.
