Harold,

We have been running 11.x in development for a few months. It installs /
upgrades just like any other release. As with any upgrade, make sure you have
a good backup just in case you need to roll back.

We did have a problem with an initial release that caused us to roll back.
Specifically it was with secondary groups on Linux, but may have affected other
*nix as well. Once the problem was resolved, we upgraded to the new release
and haven't looked back since.

Be careful of the new shared memory configuration, and especially the tunable
variables. You will most likely need to put more work into shared memory now
that it's using the UniData shared memory code.

Subject: [U2] Universe 11.x

Universe folks:

Who has upgraded from Universe 10.x to Universe 11.x lately? Is it painless?
Like - get the users out, install Universe 11.x in 5 minutes, then get the
users back in. Then, as time permits, take advantage of the new features
within Universe 11.x. Or - is it a big deal to install it?

My manager is interested in data encryption in the underlying data. It is my
understanding the Automatic Data Encryption (ADE) only exists in
Universe 11.x. Is that right? If the install is simple enough, that
would seem to be the way to go to obtain this feature for all fields.

Thanks-
